On the national holiday, the Norwegian royals presented themselves to the people. For the first time in three years, all members of the royal family performed together again.
On May 17th, the “Constitution Day” is celebrated in Norway – in 1814 the Basic Law of the Kingdom of Norway was passed, which is still celebrated with a national holiday today. The Norwegian royal family is traditionally presented to the public at the celebrations.
On Instagram, the royal family posted photos of the family, which was in a good mood on the occasion of the national holiday and was released in traditional costumes for the children’s parade on Gut Skaugum. The pictures show Prince Sverre Magnus, Princess Mette-Marit, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Crown Prince Haakon. Family dog Molly was also involved. The women appeared cleaned in traditional, colorful, asker bunaders, and men also wore traditional costume.

The Norwegian Royals and the scandal around Marius Borg Høiby
The women of the royal family seem to have touched the sight: When the children of the local schools started their move with waving flags, Mette-Marit and her daughter shone all over the face. In the afternoon, the royal family exchanged their costume for formal clothing and waved the people from the castle balcony in Oslo. King Harald and Queen Sonja were also there on this occasion.
For the first time in three years, the Norwegian royal family appeared again on the national holiday – the two youngest children were also there again, which sent a strong sign of family cohesion and national unity.
Patchwork family with challenges: These are the Norwegian Royals
The negative headlines around Marius Borg Høiby Do not tear off: The eldest son of Norway’s crown princess Mette-Marit was arrested for the third time within four months. He is already accused of bodily harm to ex-girlfriends, property damage and other offenses, and the 27-year-old is now also accused of rape. Borg Høiby is suspected of violating a criminal law paragraph “affecting sex with a person who is passed out or for other reasons to defend themselves,” said the Norwegian police. He denies the new allegations, as his lawyer Øyvind Bratlien announced several Norwegian media. The scandal has been employing the royal family for months. In August he is said to have attacked a friend “mentally and physically” and devastated a room. The woman called the police after the incident and had to take a concussion into the hospital with a concussion

Further
In the past few months it was anything but calm about the family. Mette-Marit’s son Marius Borg Høiby, who is not part of the royal family, has made headlines with a scandal for his presumably abusive behavior in recent months.
The health state of the crown princess recently repeatedly became the focus of the public. In March she had to cancel her participation in the Leipzig Book Fair because of her lung fibrosis. The crown princess made her diagnosis public in October 2018. It is a chronic illness that leads to hardening the connective tissue in the lungs. The symptoms include shortness of breath, strong cough and exhaustion. Most recently, Queen Sonja also had to deal with health problems. The 87-year-old had to be treated with breathing difficulties in the hospital.
