New milestone in military service

Crown Prince Christian took another step in his military training. He mastered a “exhausting and multi -day” exercise.

Crown Prince Christian (19) has been with the military since February to complete his training. Now there are new insights into his military service at Gardehusar regiment, a regiment of the Danish army, in Slagelse on the Danish main island of Seeland. “His royal sovereignty, the Crown Prince, received the Rex badge on Thursday, May 15, 2025, after completing the traditional, exhausting and multi-day Rex tour”. He is now a guards and is also included in the Lieutenant training program in connection with his military service at the Gardist regiment.

The royal family can be seen a whole series of pictures that shows the prince with a helmet, hat, or weapon on the ground or water during various exercises. His face is usually painted with camouflage color.

The Danish palace, including explanations on the military exercise, has also published. Accordingly, the “tour” lasts four days and none of the conscripts in advance know what to expect. “The exercise is divided into two parts of 48 hours each. The first part is a on-call and guard part, in which the conscripts are activated and used at short notice. This is followed by the REX part, which is about solving tasks under difficult conditions.”

The Crown Prince made around 65 kilometers

The conscripts usually cover around 50 kilometers with equipment of 25 to 30 kg in 36 hours. The Crown Prince covered about 65 kilometers because he was the second commander in additional patrols and reconnaissance missions. During the exercise there are very few rest periods and each soldier receives field catering for the entire exercise.

Two photographers sent from the royal family have accompanied parts of the exercise, the explanation continues. “You have only observed the exercise and were always kept at a safe distance so that you could not get in touch with the conscripts.” The royal family was never involved in the organization of the field exercise, it is emphasized. “After consultation with the train driver, the photographers of the royal family were allowed to speak briefly with the crown prince. This happened for the first time after the start of the exercise at 4:00 a.m. on Monday morning. Then on the third day, in the afternoon, and finally after receiving the Rex badge.”

What’s next for Prince Christian?

In the clip, Prince Christian can be seen together with his comrades while pulling in the barracks, while walking in the dark and during the exercises in the forest, through the water or through smoke. In addition, the allocation of the badges was recorded.

“The Crown Prince will complete its current military service at Gardehusar regimentet at the end of May,” said the royal family. The Lieutenant training program then begins at the beginning of August 2025 and “takes a year plus a subsequent practical service time as a train driver”.
