Mia Threapleton plays along in Wes Anderson’s new film. With this she is increasingly stepping out of the shadow of her famous mother.

At the age of 24, Mia Threapleton successfully steps into the footsteps of her famous mother Kate Winslet (49). At the Cannes Film Festival, she and her co-stars and director virtuoso Wes Anderson (56) present the film “The Phoenician Master Cancer” (in the original: “The Phoenician Scheme”).

Anderson and his ensemble, which also includes Michael Cera (36) and Benicio del Toro (58), were able to look forward to 6.5-minute standing ovation last Sunday. Threapleton became there and let her tears run wild. At the premiere, she shone in an emerald green dress by Oscar de la Renta with gold leaf parplications. At the photo shoot on Monday, she convinced in black in an elegant look.

The appearance in Cannes marks an important milestone on Mia Threapleton’s way to step out of the shadow of her famous mother and to establish herself as an independent actress.

Threapleton wanted to go to acting independently from the start. “I wanted to do it on my own,” she recently revealed in an interview with the “Sunday Times Style” magazine. At just 15 years old, she registered with online casting portals to see what options could be given for her.

Schauspiel tip from her mother

According to Threapleton, her mother was initially “surprised” by this professional direction when the daughter expressed her career aspiration at the age of ten. Nevertheless, Winslet was “very, very supportive” in the fact that her daughter gains her own experience. “She emphasized the hard work behind it, and the effort it needs,” said Threapleton, who also unveiled her mother’s most valuable acting tip: “Read the damn script as often as possible” was the clear instruction of the “Titanic” actress.

The 24-year-old comes from Kate Winslet’s marriage to the film director Jim Threapleton (51). The two met in 1997 on the set of “Marrakech”, married in 1998 and separated in 2001, one year after Mia’s birth.

Mia Threapleton gave her film debut in 2014 in the film “The Gardener of Versailles”, in which Winslet also played. In 2022, mother and daughter were again in front of the camera for the drama “I am Ruth”. In addition, Threapleton could be seen in the TV adaptation of “dangerous love affairs” and in the Apple TV+costume series “The Buccaners”. In “The Phoenician Master Cancer”, Del Toro plays the business magnate Zsa-Zsa Korda. Threapleton mimics his daughter, a nun called sister Liesel. The theatrical release is May 29th in Germany.
