For his 50th birthday, David Beckham received a very special present from King Charles and Queen Camilla. The British press taps royal roses.
What did the British royal couple give football legend David Beckham for his round day of honor on May 2? The British press puzzles over this after King Charles spoke to the topic at the Chelsea Flower Show.
Royale roses for the 50-year-old?
The former captain of the English national team visited the garden show on May 19 to encourage young people together with the Royals, to strive for a career in horticulture. The king asked Beckham in conversation whether he “received his gift for his 50th birthday”. The football icon replied: “That was incredible, thanks, that was very nice.” And Queen Camilla is said to have given a little reference to the mysterious present: “Nice to see you again, I am happy that you got the roses.”
David Beckham has been acting as an ambassador for the King’s Foundation for almost a year. At the Chelsea Flower Show it became clear once again how well the two men understand each other. They show pictures of the event with a laugh and deepened in a lively conversation.

David Beckham: “It was a great honor”
While the king was wearing a blue suit with stripes, Beckham appeared in a colored suit. He had put the royal rose on that. The new rose was unveiled at the flower show after being developed and bred for twelve years in the Gärtnerei David Austin Roses in Shropshire. David Beckham also posted pictures of the meeting on his Instagram account and wrote: “It was a great honor to accompany King Charles and Queen Camilla today at the official opening of the HighGrove Shop at the Chelsea Flower Show.”
