The ban on “revenge porn” is a matter close to the heart of First Lady Melania Trump. Now her wish has become the US law.
Around two months after Melania Trump (55) had spoken out against the spread of “revenge pornography”, her husband Donald Trump (78) said goodbye to a corresponding and non -partisan law. At the relevant initiative of the First Lady, it is forbidden in the USA to upload sexually explicit pictures or videos from this without the consent of the person concerned. It is irrelevant whether this is real or artificial intelligence -manipulated content (Deepfakes).
The new law stipulates that the corresponding internet platforms “do not have to take any consensual, sexually exploitial images” offline within 48 hours. Together, the US President had signed the “Take IT Down Act” in the rose garden of the White House. Melania Trump described the law in the presence of several victims of the now illegal practice.
Your fight against cyberbullying
In its associated speech, First Lady also said that artificial intelligence and social media were “the digital sweets of the new generation”. “But unlike sugar, these new technologies can be used as a weapon to form beliefs, and unfortunately they can also influence emotions and even be fatal.”
It is not the first time that Melania Trump cyberbullying the fight. Already during her husband’s first term as a US president, she had launched the “Be Best” campaign, with which children and adolescents in particular are to be protected against bullying on the Internet. “It is heartbreaking to experience life, like young teenagers, especially girls, with the overwhelming challenges through malignant online content such as Deepfakes,” said Melania Trump.
