One that brought to life the rich and stylistically complex tradition of a unique family dynasty.
Johann Sebastian Bach may be the pinnacle of several generations of musicians, but his work was significantly influenced by that of his ancestors. From great uncle Johann Bach to his two uncles Johann Christoph and Johann Michael Bach to his distant cousin Johann Ludwig Bach. That was unmistakably evident that evening.
Vox Luminis let the works lovingly collected by Bach’s sons from the Altbach archives as well as Bach’s motets “I don’t let you” and “Jesu, meine Freude” sound incredibly intensively, brilliantly with a striking clarity of the text and with an interpretation that explores all the affects of the music. Absolutely masterful. (wuss)
Conclusion: An extremely successful debut with a magnificent program.
