The colorful world of Andrea Marbach

The colorful world of Andrea Marbach

A woman strolls through Vienna. Or New York. Or Tenerife. She pauses, unpacks paints, brushes and canvas and begins to paint. “I then have to hold on to what I see,” says the woman, whose name is Andrea Marbach. She doesn’t know anyone who works like her.

If she is overcome by this sudden creativity and doesn’t have a canvas with her, an old door or a piece of wood can also become her drawing surface. The 55-year-old calls herself a “colorful bird”. Her pictures are also colorful and fresh, which are “tinted” by daylight and thus attract attention.

Yesterday Andrea Marbach opened her first solo exhibition in the Thalheimer Museum Angerlehner. Her exhibited oeuvre includes around 40 pictures – still lifes, portraits, houses, life situations. Many of her works have a long genesis. Some were created 20 years ago, now they are in a phase of revision. Hence the title of the exhibition “Vor-Bilder”. She paints over, supplemented by a woman with a rainbow flag, sticks photos of Billie Eilish or Wonderwoman on her work, makes them diverse, for example by changing the color of the skin, and still twists common, unreflected role models. “I don’t like it when men are dressed in a picture and the women next to them are shown naked,” says Andrea Marbach.

With her personal she conveys her quite enriching approach to the visual arts: namely art in a different way, laterally thought and extremely refreshing.
