Daughter of Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck: Violet Affleck raises her voice for the climate

Violet Affleck, the 19-year-old daughter of Ben Affleck (52) and Jennifer Garner (53), as many young adults of their generation of health protection and climate awareness, sides as a member of Gen Z. She has been studying at the renowned Yale University since last year and is actively involved in public health and climate protection during her studies.

Most recently, she attracted attention, in which she described, among other things, a dispute with her mother, which took place during the devastating forest fires in Los Angeles in January 2025.

In the publication, students from the university regularly publish articles on health issues. Affleck’s article is entitled “A chronically ill earth: Covid organization as an exemplary climate reaction in Los Angeles”. In it, the 19-year-old writes: “During the fires in Los Angeles in January, I fought my way with my mother in a hotel room. She was shocked and amazed at the extent of the destruction in the district where she and my siblings raised me and my siblings.”

She was surprised by her mother’s surprise. As a member of Generation Z, your question was not whether it would burn, but when. “When I was entertaining with adults in the hotel in which we had fled from the smoke, I found that my point of view was an unusual.”

Violet Affleck also explains that the structural dimension of the climate crisis, similar to Corona pandemic, will soon be impossible to ignore. “Hopefully most of us understand the climate crisis better than my little brother – we know, for example, that it is existential and accelerates, which means that the danger to places like LA will only increase with the warming of the planet.”

The 19-year-old also criticizes that the reactions to crises such as the forest fires would only show that society is still trying to tackle the climate crisis like pandemic: “As a question of how we can pretend again, as if the problem has disappeared.”

In her essay, Affleck pulls parallels between the climate crisis and the covid pandemic and calls on “to follow science, even if she frightens us instead of insisting on it that we have to live our lives until it is flames”.

It is not the first time that the young student expressed herself about health issues: In July 2024, the daughter of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner spoke at a meeting of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors about her personal experience with a post -viral illness. At that time, she requested measures such as the availability of masks and air filters as well as the reintroduction of mask obligation in medical facilities.
