Hannah Gutierrez-Reed: “Rust” weapon master again at large

The tragedy on the western film “Rust” set made headlines worldwide in October 2021. Now Hannah Gutierrez-Reed (28), who at that time worked as a weapon master at the set, has been released from custody after lost punishment. The authorities of New Mexico that Gutierrez-Reed was able to leave prison last Friday.

It is released under strict probation requirements, as can be seen from the documents that are “entertainment Weekly”. Gutierrez-Reed must immediately contact a probation helper in Bullhead City, Arizona. The conditions of their probation also include an absolute ban on contact with the victim’s family and compliance with a nightly lock. The weapon master is also not allowed to stay near weapons.

At the beginning of March 2024, Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty of neglecting her duty of supervision on the western set of “Rust” and thus contributing to the death of camera hugehna Huthins (1979-2021). In mid -April, the sentence was read out by the responsible judge – the maximum penalty was imposed at 18 months in prison. As a reason, the court therefore stated that Gutierrez-Reed had never shown remorse.

Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer was cited with the words: “You alone turned a safe weapon into a deadly weapon. Without her, Ms. Hutchins would be alive, a husband would have his partner and a little boy would have his mother.” In a pre-formulated statement, Gutierrez-Reed had still expressed that it was “sad about the way the media sensational our traumatic tragedy and portrayed me as a complete monster”.

On October 21, 2021, a shot had been solved on the set of “Rust” from a weapon that Alec Baldwin (67) held in hand. He met camera huge Halyna Hutchins and the director Joel Souza (51) behind her. Hutchins died of the consequences of the gunshot wound. The mother of a son was 42 years old.
