The actor stars in the movie Highest 2 Lowestyour fifth collaboration with Spike Leeand appeared in Cannes for the first time since Much ado about nothing 1993, which took him to the festival.
In a video of the red carpet shared by the New York Post, the two -time Oscar winner is seen pointing to a photographer and shouting that “stop.” As Washington approaches, the photographer is seen trying to subtract importance to the confrontation and grab the arm.
Washington departs and ask him again to stop. Cannes photographers are known for their aggressiveness when trying to capture the attention of the stars.

Denzel Washington received an honorary gold palm in Cannes
Washington’s night recovered after the premiere of Highest 2 Lowest. The actor received an honorary golden palm from Lee’s hands before the projection. The director of the Cannes Festival, Thierry Fremauxalso presented a montage of Washington’s films, including Malcolm x and Mo Better Bluesboth led by Lee, as well as their Oscar winning performances in Glory and Training Day.
Highest 2 Lowest had a great reception in Cannes. The film received an ovation of 5 and a half minutes.
Directed by Lee, Highest 2 Lowest is a new English version of the film High and Low of 1963 of the Japanese director Akira Kurosawa. The new version of Lee is set in the New York current and has Washington as a music tycoon involved in a rescue plot of life or death.
Highest 2 Lowest will premiere in cinemas in August and can be seen on Apple TV+ as of September 5.
