On the day of the award ceremony at the Cannes Film Festival, the electricity is gone for hours in the city in southern France. The festival operation continues quite normally.
The power failure in Cannes south of France and the surrounding area is over. As the electricity network operator RTE announced in the afternoon, all those affected have been connected to the network again in the meantime.
The film festival was also affected by the failure. The film screenings in the “Cineum”, a multiplex cinema that is outside the center, were interrupted.
However, the festival palace has its own independent power supply. The company therefore continued normally. A spokeswoman said in the afternoon, the demonstrations in the “Cineum” also ran again.
In the evening, the award ceremony of the film festival takes place in Cannes. As early as the morning, the organizers said that they could take place as planned. In addition to the Venice Film Festival, the Cannes Festival is the most important film festival in the world. 22 films compete for the golden palm this year.
The French gendarmerie cited a night fire at an electricity plant as the reason for the failure. A spokeswoman said that the fire in the Tanneron community was deliberately laid in the Tanneron community.
The spokeswoman could not say whether there is a connection between the incident and the film festival. According to electricity network operator RTE, a mast on a high -voltage line had also fallen in the morning.
