Ex- “Tagesschau” spokesman Schreiber goes to Springer

“Wherever you go, go with your heart” – these were the farewell words of Constantin Schreiber at the “Tagesschau”. And his heart obviously moves to the Middle East.

After his farewell as a “Tagesschau” spokesman, Constantin Schreiber changes to the Springer media house as a reporter. As the group announced, Schreiber will report on the entire region of the Middle East from September 1st from Tel Aviv, including in articles, podcasts, TV documentaries and talk shows. His regular editorial team at Axel Springer is “world”.

“The topics for which I have been standing as a journalist and author for years are more important than ever,” Schreiber is quoted in the message. “I look forward to accompanying and classifying politics and world events with various formats as part of Axel Springer’s Global Reporter Network with many millions of users in Europe and the USA.”

“And a little bit out of despite”

Schreiber agreed in public in an interview with “ZEIT ONLINE” about his new job. “Of course I also turned the mental loop beforehand: What does that mean when you go there?”, The 45-year-old recalled. “I’m not so naive, to believe that some have no reservations. And so a little bit, I say, no, no, that can’t be the argument. Something that I find totally exciting in terms of content and so not to do because some do not like the publisher.”

Schreiber had been “Tagesschau” spokesman since 2017. A large audience followed his farewell to the news program on Sunday evening. In the first alone there were 6.70 million people. In addition, there were many other spectators at 3sat and the third programs.

“Wherever you go, go with your heart”

At the end of the 8 p.m. show, Schreiber addressed the audience “a few personal words” and thanked for the trust. “I wish you all of us, a lot of positive news and believe in the good. A Chinese proverb is: Wherever you go, go with your heart. I think that’s a good advice. I wish you a nice evening for the last time.”

Before his “Tagesschau” time, Schreiber lived in the Middle East countries for many years and is considered a proven expert for the region. He has been awarded multiple awards, including the Grimme Prize for the series “Marhaba-Arriving in Germany”.

Schreiber has already published numerous books, including about Islam. His publications also include the pamphlet “Let us speak openly! Why democracy needs fearless debates”, in which writers pleaded to listen to each other and to endure discussions.
