Special honor for the Queen rocker Brian May and Roger Taylor: They received the renowned Polar Music Prize in Sweden.
Brian May (77) and Roger Taylor (75) from the legendary rock band Queen are on May 27 by King Carl XVI. Gustaf (79) was awarded the Polar Music Prize 2025. At the gala in the Grand Hotel in Stockholm, the rockers were honored for their entire career.
Musicians are proud of the award
On the stage, Brian May said: “At this special moment, I think about how the younger Brian May would have felt in 1974 if he knew that we would live such a dream in 50 years.” His colleague Roger Taylor added: “When we founded our band … we had ambitions, but we never dreamed of the trip that would follow us.” They would have been lucky that “our four completely different personalities came together and developed a wonderful chemistry”.
According to the drummer, it was an honor to “be included in the glittering ranks of the previous winners”. They are very proud to “preserve this incredibly prestigious award”.
During the event, in which Queen Silvia (81) also took part, singer Adam Lambert (43) performed a number of queen hits, including “Who Wants to Live Forever” and “Another One Bites the Dust”. Roger Taylor was accompanied by his wife Sarina on the red carpet, while Brian May was accompanied by his wife Anita Dobson.
Fit again after a stroke
The musician looks back on a difficult year: In September 2024, Brian May announced that he had a slight stroke. Fortunately, he seems to have recovered well from this. Already last month he looked fit again at the Coachella Festival.
