Bruce Springsteen: “Life -saving” donation for miners

Bruce Springsteen (75) is currently celebrated as “hero” in Great Britain. And not because of his music. A new BBC documentary revealed a “life-saving” donation from the American singer over $ 20,000 to striking miners.

In the program “When Bruce Springsteen Came to Britain”, according to media reports, the singer said in 1985 during the strikes women who supported the miners at their industrial action to his concert in the St. James’ Park stadium of Newcastle United. There the star apparently presented the check behind the stage. One of the women remembers in the documentary: “He is a hero for us, he didn’t do it because of the publicity. He did it because he wanted to do it, and that helped a lot in the helpers.” She added: “It was absolutely life -saving.”

Bruce Springsteen himself on the show about his support for the miners: “My parents belonged to the working class and I witnessed her all her life as they fought.” At that time he read about the strike in the newspapers and “just felt” that it would be a good thing to help: “It was not a big deal, but it was a good thing that could be done at the time.”

Bruce Springsteen was born in New Jersey in 1949. His father worked as a bus driver and in other changing professions. His mother worked as a secretary.

Springsteen started his music career in the 1960s and later became the world star. He is particularly known for songs such as “Born in the USA”, “Glory Days”, “Dancing in the Dark” and “Born to Run” and received numerous awards, including 20 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes and an Oscar for his song “Streets of Philadelphia” from the film “Philadelphia”.
