Around 16 years ago, Sylvie Meis was diagnosed with breast cancer. The moderator now says that she still thinks of the disease every day.
It was “like an earthquake” when Sylvie Meis (47) felt a knot in her chest around 16 years ago. The Dutch moderator reports. At that time, in 2009, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Sylvie Meis was very scared
“I think of cancer every day,” Meis continues. “I was afraid of death.” In retrospect, however, she also feels gratitude for “that I was allowed to survive. Even if it was so mega, I am grateful that it made me the woman who is sitting here today.” Sylvie Meis publicly announced in June 2009 that she had breast cancer. The tumor had to be removed surgically. In addition, the moderator made supportive chemotherapy, as a result of which she failed.
A little later, in 2010, she took part in the RTL dance show “Let’s Dance”. There was also the most formative moment of her TV career. “That was certainly the moment when I took the wig after my cancer treatment at ‘Let’s Dance’ and for the very first time I showed the public with my very, very short hair,” she recently said in an interview with the “Playboy” magazine. After participating, Meis moderated the show between 2011 and 2017 alongside Daniel Hartwich (46).
Before she started in Germany as a presenter, Sylvie Meis in Germany became known as the wife of the former football player Rafael van der Vaart (42). The two were married from 2005 and received their son Damian in May 2006. In 2013, the couple separated headlines and divorced. They are now “good friends” again, Meis now says in the podcast.
