Dua Lipa and over 300 other stars in an open letter to Keir Strander: Great Britain should no longer deliver weapons to Israel.
More than 300 public personalities have contacted the British Prime Minister Keir Strandmer (62) in an urgent open letter. Among them: pop star Dua Lipa (29), Hollywood star Benedict Cumberbatch (48), “Bridgerton” star Nicola Coughlan (38), music legend Annie Lennox (70) and many more. Her appeal: The British government should “end its complicity on the atrocities in Gaza”.
The letter was initiated by the refugee aid organization “Choose Love”. Among other things, the signatories call for the immediate stop of all British arms deliveries to Israel, the unrestricted access for humanitarian aid organizations and a decisive occurrence for an armistice – “for the children Gazas”, as it is said.
“The story will not forget”
The prominent accuses the British government of continuing to enable arms deliveries to Israel despite growing humanitarian disaster in Gaza. “Children in Gaza starve while food and medication are only stored away for minutes,” says the letter with a view to the previously eleven weeks of blockade of humanitarian aid.
The British Prime Minister recently declared that the suffering in Gaza was “unbearable” and Israel’s humanitarian measures “completely inadequate”. But the signing criticize: Words alone are not enough. “You can’t call it ‘unbearable’ and remain unbearable at the same time,” quotes the news portal. “The world looks at – and the story will not forget. The children of Gazas can not wait for another minute.”
These stars also signed the open letter
According to the report, Oscar Prize winners Tilda Swinton, “Chicken Shop Date” presenter Amelia Dimoldenberg, members of the British cult band Massive Attack, photographer Misan Harriman, model Lily Cole as well as ex-football star and commentator Gary Lineker are also among the signs.
The 87-year-old Holocaust survivor Stephen Kapos also signed the letter.
The constituents describe the suffering of the children in Gaza particularly drastically: Around 71,000 children under the age of four are acutely malnourished, many would “cry until they can no longer cry – until hunger takes their voice”. They make it clear what role British armaments play in the conflict in their view: “Violence, which is characterized by the inactivity of Great Britain – flown with parts that were delivered by British factories to Israel”.
The letter ends with a clear question to the Prime Minister: “What will you vote? Complicity of war crimes or the courage to act?”
