Kate Winslet’s daughter Mia Threapleton had to look away as a child at the iconic “Titanic” Liebeszente. Mama kept her eyes.
An embarrassing childhood memory that many actor subsidiaries know: when your mother suddenly smooched outside on TV! Mia Threapleton (24), daughter of Oscar winner Kate Winslet (48), has a particularly lively memory of the moment when she saw mom’s most famous film “Titanic” for the first time.
“I remember the car scene and suddenly these hands appeared from behind over my head and kept my eyes” ,. Your spontaneous reaction at the time: “I can still hear everything!”
Mother Kate doesn’t like to watch her own films
The famous love scene between Rose (Kate Winslet) and Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) in a car in the lower deck of the legendary luxury steamer with the fogged windows is one of the most iconic moments in film history. For the little Mia, however, it was a rather disturbing moment – not only because of the content, but also because of the background noise with the passionate kisses and the romantic soundtrack “My Heart Will on” in the background.
Threapleton, which is currently being seen in Wes Anderson’s new project “The Phoenician Master Cancer”, also reveals that James Cameron’s disaster epic could never have been the first choice of her mom for a film evening. “I don’t remember why he was running. My mother would never voluntarily turn on this film. She doesn’t like to look at herself. And I totally understand why.”
From the daughter to an independent actress
The 24-year-old is the daughter of Kate Winslet and her ex-husband, filmmaker Jim Threapleton (51). She had her first professional acting appearance in 2014 in Winslet’s drama “The Gardener of Versailles”. She has been seen in various series since 2020, including in the Netflix drama “Scoop – a Royales Interview” from 2024 and in Apple TV+’S “The Buccaners”.
Her Oscar-winning mother also did not put pressure on her to become an actress. On the contrary – she didn’t even take her to the film set. “The older I get, the more grateful I am that it went as it went,” says Threapleton today. “Because that means that all of my experiences and everything I did come from me.”
