“Desperate Housewives” star Valerie Mahaffey dies at the age of just 71

The actress Valerie Mahaffey died of cancer in Los Angeles at the age of 71.
Born in Indonesians Valerie Mahaffey, daughter of a Texaner and a Canadian, was active in the film and television business for over four decades. She leaves her husband Joseph Kell and the daughter Alice together.
“I have lost the love of my life and America has lost one of his most lovable actresses. We will be missing,” her husband told the magazine “Variety”. Her daughter Alice Richards wrote on Instagram: “I just lack the words. Cancer is really caustic. I will look for you in all beautiful moments of life. I know that you will be there. I know that one day we will see each other again. I love you infinitely.”

Valerie Mahaffey played in several well -known series and films
Mahaffey played in numerous TV productions. She was particularly known for her roles as an alma Hodge in “Desperate Housewives”, as Eve in “Alaska” and as a teacher Victoria Macelroy in “Young Sheldon”, where she was seen in 14 episodes from 2017 to 2020.
She was also active in the cinema, for example in “Sully” on the side of Tom Hanks and in “French Exit” with Michelle Pfeiffer and Imogen Poots. Her last film was “The 8th Day”, which was released in March 2025. Most recently, she was also seen in series such as “Dead to Me” (as Lorna Harding) and “Echo 3” (2022).
Mahaffey started her career on Broadway in the 1970s. She had her breakthrough on television in 1979 with the NBC soap “The Doctors”. In 1980 she received her first Emmy nomination. In 1992 she finally won the award for her role in “Alaska of all people” as an outstanding supporting actress. In addition to guest appearances in series such as “Frasier”, “CSI” and “Law & Order: SVU”, she was primarily known in the USA as a versatile and precise character actress.
Mahapaffey’s daughter Alice Richards steps into the mother’s footsteps and is also active in the show business. Among other things, she played in the horror film “The Witch Files” and 2010 in the youth film “Summer Eleven” in 2018.
