John Legend: USA slides in “authoritarian government system”

Musician John Legend has been a decisive critic of US President Donald Trump for a long time. And he wants to continue to fight against his policy. Otherwise, he warns, it could be too late at some point.

US music star John Legend (46) is afraid of the political future of his country under President Donald Trump. “I think we still have a democracy, but we see the beginnings of gliding into an authoritarian government system,” he told the German Press Agency before his only Germany concert this Saturday (June 7) in Munich.

“If we go there, nobody will be sure, especially those who decide to raise their voice who decide to contradict.

“Have political leaders with whom I absolutely do not agree”

The singer (“All of Me”) was a supporter of the Democrats last year and performed on one of their party days – and he wants to continue fighting against Trump. “We currently have a political leader with whom I absolutely do not agree and we carry out a political program that I strongly contradict,” he told the dpa.

“I will continue to raise my voice and get involved.” So far, he has been particularly committed to local and state level. “But if it is time, I will also talk about national issues if I think I can do something.”

The 46-year-old, who is married to Model Christine Teigen (39), wants to perform on June 7th in the Munich Olympic Hall. Together with his band, he presents his album “Get Lifted” and also celebrates its 20th anniversary. It is the only Germany concert of this year’s tour.
