In a new documentary, music star Billy Joel speaks about a hard time in his life that brought him to the abyss.
Billy Joel (76) speaks openly about a dark time in his life in a new documentary. “Billy Joel: And So It Goes” was currently celebrating its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. , as he fell in love with in early 20 in Elizabeth Weber, the then wife of Jon Small. Small was the best friend and bandmate at the time. The later “Piano Man” even moved in with the couple and the son of the two.
Weber reports in the documentary according to “People” that she and Joel spent a lot of time together before Small got wind from the affair. The triangle relationship culminated in the fact that Joel confessed to his friend: “I fell in love with your wife.” Weber and Joel came together again after an interim separation and were married from 1973 to 1982.
“I felt very, very guilty”
According to “People”, Billy Joel said about the affair at the time in the film: “I felt very, very guilty. They had a child.” He added: “I was just in love with a woman and got a blow on the nose I deserved. Jon was very angry. I was very angry.”
The affair led to the ways from Joel and Small separated professionally and privately, the musician then apparently got into a downward spiral. Joel revealed: “I didn’t have an apartment anymore. I slept in laundromat and was depressed, I think I was almost psychotic.” He thought: “That’s it. I don’t want to live anymore.”
In the documentary film, Billy Joel’s sister Judy Molinari revealed to the report that Joel was “in a coma for days” after a first attempted suicide. In a second attempt it was Jon Small who took Joel to the hospital. “Although our friendship broke up, Jon saved my life,” says the singer. Then he was looking for help, Joel continued.

Billy Joel has to cancel concerts
Most recently, Billy Joel had worried his fans with new health problems. He recently had to cancel all of his planned concerts. The musician suffers from normal pressure hydrocephalus, also known as an old -age brain pressure. Due to his recent appearances, his condition worsened, Joel suffered from hearing, visual and balance problems, it said. At the instruction of his doctor, the 76-year-old now does special physiotherapy.
