Director and screenwriter Ryan Coogler confirms that Denzel Washington plays a role in “Black Panther 3”.
It is officially open how things will continue with “Black Panther” – but it is certain: Part 3 comes, this was confirmed in December 2024. Now director and author Ryan Coogler (39) reveals at least a first detail about the cast: Denzel Washington (70) will be there.
New role for Denzel Washington written
The Coogler responsible for the first “Black Panther” film and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” reports in the fact that Washington will play a special role. When asked whether he wrote this specially for Washington or had him for a certain figure in his head right from the start, Coogler said: “All of this. All of the points mentioned above.” He does not yet reveal what role Washington will play – but it is clear that the figure was obviously written on his body.
“Denzel is now part of the family,” continues the director. “I’ve tried to work with him since the first day. I think he is the largest living actor, and when you consider what it means for our culture […]. “A long time ago, the two of them had spoken about the project. Before” Black Panther 3 “actually came to the cinemas, it should still take: US media currently speculate about a start at the end of 2027 – but more realistic appears in 2028 or 2029.
Washington had already said in November 2024 that he would play in “Black Panther 3”. At the time, he said that Coogler was writing a role for him. “I was surprised when he mentioned it, but it’s not as if it weren’t true,” the director comments now.
The circle closes
With Denzel Washington in the “Black Panther” universe, a circle closes. According to the late leading actor Chadwick Boseman (1976-2020), Washington was indirectly involved in success. He revealed in the year that the star once paid Boseman’s fees for acting lessons in Oxford.
“There is no ‘Black Panther’ without Denzel Washington,” said Boseman, according to US reports in 2019, as Washington was awarded an AFI Life Achievement Award. Boseman, who died of the consequences of colon cancer in 2020, said that it was an honor to know Washington, to learn from him and to work with him.
