For the 56th birthday of Prince Joachim, the royal family sent public congratulations. He himself causes a sensation with future plans.
Prince Joachim von Denmark, the younger and only brother of King Frederik X. (57) turns 56 on June 7th. The Danish royal family congratulated the Danish royal family with an official photo, which Joachim shows in a dark suit, with an attachment cloth, red tie and a serious look. In the new year of life there may be big changes for the Danes. As he told in a TV interview, he could imagine an early return to his homeland.
Film about Joachim on the Ochsenweg
Also congratulated the royal family on the morning of June 7, alongside the portrait with the words: “His royal sovereignty Prince Joachim has her birthday and is 56 today.” It was also pointed out to a documentary that will be broadcast on DR1 on June 8th. In the film entitled “Hørvejen” (Ochsenweg), Prince Joachim and author Steffen Jacobsen are on the popular hiking route through Jutland.
In the TV interview, he speaks of return “home”
One day before his birthday, Queen Margrethe’s youngest son (85), who was abdicated in January 2024, and Prince Henri (1934-2018) caused a sensation with a TV appearance. Because in it he indicated that he might move back to Denmark with his family in the coming year. “We have the desire to come home,” said Prince Joachim on Friday morning the Danish broadcaster “TV 2”. “But we also do not rule out that there is no other way if we stay abroad.” For the time being, however, the plan is: “If the post ends here, we will return home.”
After a one -year military training, the prince initially worked as a defense attaché at the Danish embassy in Paris for three years before moving to the message in Washington, DC in September 2023. His contract ends there in autumn 2026.
Then there could be with his second wife Marie (49) and the children from the United States back to Denmark. Meanwhile, however, they would have settled in well in Washington. “We are all busy in our way. The children are at school where they enjoy being challenged and expand their social circle, and I have my work. We are our small core family and enjoy it and ensure that we also have time for each other. That it is not always about work, school and homework.” Nevertheless, the family in Denmark would have its “largest social basis”. You would always enjoy the time there “to the fullest”.
Conciliatory sign
Joachim’s future plans could indicate that there was actually a rapprochement within the royal family. Most recently, King Frederik used his 57th birthday on May 26th for a conciliatory step. The palace published a photo that shows him together with his nephew Nikolai and Felix, the children from Joachim’s first marriage. It was also said that the king awarded the two young men the Great Cross of the Dannebrog Order at a private event.
This was considered a step with a signal effect. Because tensions are said to have occurred in the royal family after Queen Margrethe II announced in 2022 to derive the children of her son Joachim the prince and princess titles. In addition to Nikolai and Felix, this also affected the younger siblings Henrik and Athena, whom Joachim has with his second wife.
