Carlo von Tiedemann became known with programs such as “The current Schaubude” and radio programs. His trademark was heart and snout. Now the popular NDR moderator has died with 81.

The Hamburg radio and television presenter Carlo von Tiedemann is dead. As his family told the NDR, the media man died in Hamburg at the age of 81. Tiedemann has repeatedly struggled with health problems in recent years. The moderator had been in a good mood for generations since 1971 at the public service North German Radio (NDR): with TV programs such as “The current Schaubude” and in numerous hearing programs, including “Hamburg on noon” and “Great freedom”.

“If the name” NDR veteran “applies to a person, it is Carlo von Tiedemann,” said director Joachim Knuth, according to the announcement. “With his flippant, spontaneous and warm way, he inspired several generations and was unchallenged until the end of our absolute crowd lovers.” The NDR owes a lot to Tiedemann – his death was a bitter loss. “Our sympathy applies in particular to his family.”

Unprecedented career at the NDR

His trademark was an almost inexhaustible flow of language with a down-to-earth, loving-derben mother joke. He was born on October 20, 1943 as Carl Ferdinand Hanns-Joachim Franz Friedrich von Tiedemann in Stargard in Pommers. His father was a lieutenant general of the Prussian army, his mother Fides a born of Kleist. Due to the war, the family came to Hamburg in 1945. As a boy, Tiedemann suffered from paralysis and later had two brain tumors.

After an apprenticeship as a publisher, he volunteered at the “Cuxhavener Allgemeine”. Then wrote as a police reporter for the “Hamburger Abendblatt”, went to Buenos Aires (Argentina) for three years as a correspondent for the Springer abroad. This was followed by Tiedemann’s unprecedented career at the NDR, in which, in addition to legends such as Victoria Voncampe and Alida Gundlach (formerly fisherman) and later, Bettina Tietjen, for example, he stepped in front of the microphone.

Commitment to children’s hospice

The snout -bearded media star, who was also a stadium spokesman for the HSV from 1991 to 1998, played a career chicken, and occasionally played small series roles (“GroßstadtTrevier”), but also: His excursion to ZDF started in early 1984 with the “Show and Co.” series in 1986.

In the 80s he made headlines with prostitutes, cocaine and high debts. But in the end, Tiedemann took responsibility for his crash and paid back his debts for twelve years. And devoted himself more to his family. The Tiedemann, deep believer, was also committed to the Hamburg Foundation Children’s Hospice “Sternen Bridge”.
