Alfons Schuhbeck does not currently have to go back to prison. Health reasons keep the convicted cook at large.
The former celebrity chef Alfons Schuhbeck (76) remains a free man for the time being. Despite his final conviction for three years and two months in prison due to tax evasion, he does not currently have to go back to prison. This was confirmed by the Munich I.
The reason for the preliminary postponement lies in Schuhbeck’s attacked health. “It is currently being checked whether and, if necessary, like the necessary medical treatment of Mr. Schuhbeck, can be continued in custody,” said a spokeswoman. “In any case, until the end of this exam, the convict does not have to be further completed of the prison sentence in the prison.”
Free for at least one month
The public prosecutor also had last month that Alfons Schuhbeck was currently not in prison. A “further enforcement of its total prison sentence” had been interrupted by the beginning of June 2025 “for health reasons”.
The former television chef initially started his prison sentence in August 2023 in the Landsberg on Lech correctional facility after the Federal Court of Justice had largely confirmed the judgment of the Munich Regional Court. Schuhbeck had been accused of systematically evading taxes for years. He was later moved to a branch of the JVA in the Rothenfeld district of Andechs.
Another process of this month
However, the legal processing of Schuhbeck’s case has not yet been completed. Already in February it became known that he had to go back to court. Between June 24th and July 14th, four main hearing dates were scheduled. This new procedure is about further allegations against the once successful restaurateur for subsidy fraud. It is not yet clear whether Schubeck can appear in court.
