Tom Felton becomes Draco Malfoy again – with the support of Daniel Radcliffe in his Broadway debut.
Nervousness before the big appearance? Not if you have an experienced colleague at your side. Tom Felton (37) revealed on the red carpet of the Tony Awards in New York how much Daniel Radcliffe (35) helps him prepare for his Broadway debut.
“My old schoolmate Potter, Daniel Radcliffe, has already gained a lot of Broadway experience, so he holds my hand and helps me with all the things that are difficult to learn,” said Felton. The actor is enthusiastic about the Broadway community: “But as far as I can judge this, it is an amazing community of people. The fans are really very warm and excited. I am simply enthusiastic about being part of it.”
Old role with a new approach
14 years, after playing the role of Draco Malfoy in a “Harry Potter” film for the last time, the actor returns to his most famous character. From November 11th he will be on stage for 19 weeks in “Harry Potter and the enchanted child” on Broadway. Felton announced this a few days ago at a appearance on the “Today Show” from NBC. He is the first original actor of the film series to appear in the popular stage version that continues the history of the well -known figures.
“I’m a big fan of the show,” said Felton in an interview with “People”. He had already seen her “about a dozen times, almost all in England and a few times now on Broadway”. Nevertheless, the request surprised him: “I never thought that I would have blonde hair again and that I would play this role again.” However, the actor finds the changed circumstances of his character particularly attractive: “As a father, Draco now has a son. So it is an old character, but in completely new circumstances. I look forward to exploring that.”
“Variety” he also said: “I think the most exciting thing is that we do it live. The filming for a film lasted nine months, more or less. And this is all compact. It all has been converted into a very nice, new, tight story. And I can be a father that is a lot of fun.” He stated about the continued “Harry Potter” enthusiasm: “I think we all thought that the flame of the fan base would go out over the years, but that is obviously not the case.”
Also about the controversy, for the “Harry Potter” creator JK Rowling (59) with her statements against trans-people that she did not affect his work. “The only thing I always remember is that I was lucky enough to travel the world. I am in New York here,” he continued. “And I have never seen anything that the world brings together more than Potter, and it is responsible for that. So I’m incredibly grateful.”
Daniel Radcliffe, who played the title role in all “Harry Potter” films from 2001 to 2011, is no longer a newcomer to Broadway. Already in 2008 he made his debut at the theater with “Equus” after playing the role in the West End in London. This was followed by further productions such as “How to Suc ped in Business Without Really Trying” (2011), “The Cripple of Inishmaan” (2014) and “The Lifespan of A Fact” (2018).
Radcliffe 2023 celebrated his biggest Broadway success with “Merrily We Roll Along” on the side of Jonathan Groff (40) and Lindsay Mendez (42). For this role he even received the Tony Award as the best supporting actor in a musical.
