“Vertigo” actress Kim Novak is honored at the Venice Film Festival. She receives the golden lion for her life’s work.
Kim Novak (92) is awarded the Golden Lion for their life’s work at the 82nd International Film Festival. The organizers gave that. The US actress said in a statement that she was “deeply moved” to obtain the prestigious award from such a respected film festival. “At this point in time in my life for my work, it is a dream that has become true. I will honor any moment that I spend in Venice. He will fulfill my heart with joy.”
“A rebel in the heart of Hollywood”
Kim Novak became known as Madeleine and Judy in Alfred Hitchcocks (1899-1980) Psychothriller “Vertigo – from the realm of the dead” (1958). Her other films include “My bride is supernatural” (1958), “in the middle of the night” (1959), “Still room free” (1962) or “Kiss me, fool” (1964). From the end of the 1960s, she was only in front of the camera irregularly, in 1991 she made her last film.
Kim Novak, who was discovered as a model for the film and later pursued her passion as a painter, “was one of the most popular icons of an entire era of the Hollywood film, from her promising debut in the mid-1950s to her premature and voluntary exile from the Golden Kage of Los Angeles a short time later,” explains Alberto Barbera (75), director of the film festival from Venice, in a statement.
The Golden Lion for her life’s work appreciated an “emancipated star, a rebel in the heart of Hollywood who illuminated the dreams of film lovers before she retired to her ranch in Oregon to devote herself to painting and her horses,” said Barbera.
In the course of the appreciation of Novak, the documentary “Kim Novak’s Vertigo” by Alexandre Philippe was shown as a premiere “which was created in an exclusive cooperation with the actress”.
The Venice Film Festival will take place from August 27 to September 6, 2025.
