ARACA LA CANA The most important Uruguayan murga arrives in Buenos Aires to celebrate its 90th anniversary with an unmissable show. It will be This Saturday, June 7 at the Opera Theatertickets for sale only in Ticketek.

With a unique scenic deployment, highlighting the prominence of the costumes and makeup, and 14 members on stage, the band consecrated throughout these decades as an undisputed reference of popular music.

THE HISTORY OF ARACA LA CANA

Its beginnings were in the winter of 1934 with “Los Canillitas” – newspaper vendors – of the Mill pass (proletarian neighborhood to the west of Montevideo). By the hand of its first director Manolo “Piano” Lemoshe was transforming with the years into a benchmark of the Carnival breaking with many molds of the time. They always collected the feeling of the people to transfer it to their text and songs.

In the ’60s, the axis of his proposal was the policy, while in the 70s in the framework of the coup d’etat – their songs were focused on the farewell of human rights and censorship. They were at that time a symbol of resistance and a form of popular containment in the midst of such sadness and darkness. With the return of democracy they reaffirmed their profile with letters related to poverty, unemployment, childhood and Latin American unity, among others. Several rulers were satirized in their presentations, which sometimes caused the murga to be displaced by jurors.

In the 1990s, he focused criticism in corruption, colonization and claim of native peoples, in addition to getting involved in community activities and social containment.

Araca La Cana has recorded more than 40 albums of which 9 have been gold and 1 platinum discs.

Has shared the stage with Rubén Rada, Jaime Roos, Alfredo Zitarrosa, Daniel Viglietti, Víctor Heredia, Numa Moraes, among other artists.
