Actress Iris Berben is concerned about social development and is irritated by the current image of women. A sentence she hears again and again is particularly annoying.
Schauspiel icon Iris Berben (74) looks at the social development and today’s image of women with anger and bewilderment. “That makes me angry,” the actress told the “Stern” to a question. “I ask myself: What did our generation actually take to the streets for? What did we want to demand? A self -determined image of women, on their own responsibility.”
In her opinion, individuality is “rather punished these days, you will be canceled if you don’t belong”. The focus is too much on a “superficial perfection”. “I always want to shout the young people: it is not bad if you also take care of the inside of your head and train the brain, not just the butt.”
“Something is going wrong”
For example, she is stunned that many women voted for US President Donald Trump. “How is it possible that Donald Trump was mainly chosen by women with his agenda, with his appearance?” Said Berben. “I am stunned and have the feeling that something is going wrong.” That is why she concerns today’s image of women.
Again and again she hears the sentence: “But they still look good for their age.” This is “meant as a compliment”, but comes from an “arrogant attitude”. “He says a lot about how women are seen. And that’s exactly what I am annoyed. I think that is meant positively, but there is a structure behind it,” said Berben. “Visibility of women does not only mean to look nice at 18 or 20 – that doesn’t stop.”
