Harvey Weinstein was found guilty in an indictment point, acquitted in another. There is no agreement on the third.
The resumption procedure against Harvey Weinstein (73) has produced an ambivalent result: The jury owe the 73-year-old ex-film mogul this Wednesday in an indictment, but in a second case declared him innocent. In the event of a third indictment, the consultations at the jury in New York remained with no result.
The three women who raised the allegations of sexual assault against him had testified in the process. Weinstein denies the accusations and did not guilty. The twelve jurors – seven women and five men – had started their fifth day of advice on Wednesday by listening to the statement of actress Jessica Mann (39) again, who claimed that Weinstein raped them in a hotel room in Manhattan in 2013. The producer is also accused of having compelled two other women, film producer Miriam Haley (48) and model Kaja Sokola (33), in 2006 for oral sex. His lawyers represented the prosecutors as opportunists who accepted his advances because they hoped for advantages in the entertainment industry.
Advice continues
Weinstein is now guilty of sexual assault on Miriam Haley. The accusations of Sokola, which, in contrast to the other two witnesses had not stated at Weinstein’s last trial, did not lead to blame. In the third case, there was no judgment. The jury will resume the consultations about the alleged rape of men on Thursday.
The original conviction of Weinstein five years ago sealed the decline of one of the most influential personalities in Hollywood and marked a turning point for the #Metoo movement. The renewed trial in New York was scheduled after a court of Weinstein’s conviction was 23 years in prison from 2020 due to procedural errors. Weinstein is still in custody in New York because he was sentenced to 16 years in prison in a further trial in California. He wants to have the judgment contested.
