Schwarzenegger in “Fubar”: action with Schnuckiputzi

In the Netflix series “Fubar” Arnold Schwarzenegger takes his image as an action star. At the start of the second season, the 77-year-old talks about dance training and stunts in old age.

At the age of 77, Arnold Schwarzenegger plays the role that has always been best for him. In the Netflix series “Fubar”, the Hollywood star and former governor of California with a good dose of self-irony gives an aged action hero who knocks cool sayings. You can tell that he is amused. Now (since June 12) there is the wonderfully exaggerated second season of “Fubar” at the streaming service.

Schwarzenegger raves about the shoot

Turning the new episodes was even more fun than the first season, says “Arnie”. “Because we already knew each other,” he says in a good mood to the German Press Agency. “It was like a family reunion. We came together again and faced a new challenge. It was really funny because it starts so chaotic.”

Schwarzenegger plays the CIA agent – and native Austrian – Luke Brunner, who is actually about to retire. At the beginning of season two, Luke with his recovered ex-wife Tally (Fabiana Udenio), his daughter and Cia colleague Emma (Monica Barbaro), the ex-partners of Tally and Emma as well as several CIA colleagues in a safe house, because her secret identity was blown up.

However, the house is too small for the group. “Everyone hears everything, everyone sees everything. We start to get on each other’s nerves,” says Schwarzenegger. “It’s really funny. But that’s the highlight of the series. It is action and comedy. Comedic action scenes come after the comedic scenes.” Memories of the classics are wanted. “I’ll be back!” Or “I’m coming back,” the “Terminator” star calls in the first episode.

“Matrix” star as an East German ex-agent

In season one, Luke Brunner had found that his daughter Emma was a top agent – and vice versa. Together, the two had to put the craft of an arms dealer while repairing their father-daughter relationship. In the new episodes, the two still deliver many amusing word battles while they manage action -packed espionage orders – and finally have to try to save the world.

New is “Matrix” star Carrie-Anne Moss (57) as a former East German agent Greta, who once had a passionate affair with Luke. Luke thought she was dead, now she completely messed up his professional and private life. She works on her own for criminal clients – and calls Luke “Schnuckiputzi”.

Memories of “True Lies”

In one of the best scenes, Greta Luke requires dancing. Of course, this evokes memories of another Schwarzenegger action classic. “I danced for” True Lies “for many hours and also practiced a lot for this dance,” says the 77-year-old. “I have to admit that I am a total idiot when it comes to dancing. It’s not in my blood.” However, dance partner Moss waves. “That’s not true,” she says. “You made it look like you could.” That’s correct.

It will also be fun when the two talk about the pitfalls of aging. “Sometimes I can’t think of a funny saying when I kill someone,” complains Luke with a wink. As is well known, Schwarzenegger is not a character actor. But “Fubbar” fits him ideally. It is still fun to watch the action icon – also because “Arnie” himself has fun.

“Some actors are lousy bastards,” he jokes. “But I am not part of it. I always have fun. I am so happy that I can work that I have a job, a challenge and good colleagues around me. I say to myself:” Hey, who am to complain? “I’m amused.”

Many stunts made homemade

At the end of 70, it was important to him to do as many stunts as possible. “What was easy at 40 is now much more difficult for me,” he admits. “But if you reach a certain age, you want to make sure that you can still do things. You start rehearsing earlier, you practice with the stunt people, you think about how to go there how to roll out of the scene – it is a challenge, but it is feasible.”

In addition to the well-placed Schwarzenegger and co-star Moss, the Oscar-nominated Monica Barbaro (“Like a Complete Unknown”) shines as a perfect opposite pole to her father. The Comedians Fortune Feimster (Agentin Roo), Scott Thompson (therapist Dr. Pepper) and guest appearances by Tom Arnold provide many laughs – and other characters.

With a lot of wit and action, the second season of “Fubar” – the title is an acronym from the military jargon that, depending on the reading for “total damage” or “absolute chaos” – is at least as entertaining as the first.

All eight episodes of the second seasons have been available on Netflix since Thursday (June 12th). Ideally look in the original version with subtitles.
