Will too much argue in political talk shows? The “hard but fair” moderator sees no reason for forced compromises. The spectators could still take a little out of the debates.
In the ARD show “Hart but fair”, Louis Klamroth regularly leads through disputed, political debates – that the guests are often disagreed for the moderator. “I don’t think people have to say at the end of a discussion: nice, now we have found a common denominator. This is nonsense,” he told the magazine “Zeit Campus”. It is more important that the audience can hear and reflect on perspectives and arguments. “A talk show should expand the horizon, not change the opinion.”
As a child, he had fascinated him on talk shows “as a negotiations are being made before the eyes of millions of viewers,” said Klamroth. During his studies in Amsterdam, he learned to “inspire good arguments for the beauty of good arguments, even if they contradict his own view,” said Klamroth. “A good talk show transmits exactly this knowledge.”
Günther Jauch inspires Klamroth’s work “To this day”
Klamroth found praise for his former boss Günther Jauch. In the editorial team of his ARD talk show, which Jauch moderated from 2011 to 2015, Klamroth had done an internship during his studies. “No matter how the quotas and the headlines were the next day, he was admiringly calm and appreciative to the team,” said Klamroth. “That inspires my work to this day.”
