For a black and white portrait with the name as well as the singer’s birth and death date, it says: “With a heavy heart we have to say that Douglas McCarthy died on June 11, 2025. We ask everyone to show respect in this difficult time.”
No information is given on the cause of the death of the deceased musician. In the short statement, it continues that you would like to thank you for understanding and that you want to share more information shortly.
In March 2024, the band announced that McCarthy would no longer appear for the time being. In one, he also explained, among other things, that liver cirrhosis had been found in him after years of alcohol abuse. McCarthy had not drunk any sip for more than two years, “but recovery is a lengthy process that is sometimes very difficult to predict,” the article said at the time.
Douglas McCarthy was born in 1966 in the Barking district of London. He founded the band Nitzer EBB with Vaughan “Bon” Harris and David Gooday in 1982. The band name with the “tz”, which is atypical in English, was a demarcation from other parts of the music scene. With songs like “Join in the Chant”, “Control I’m here” and “Murderous”, the group became a formative band of the Electronic Body Music (EBM).
