Christopher Seiler, singer of the band Seiler and Speer, tells in an interview what he admires to songwriter legend Wolfgang Ambros.

The Austrian band Seiler and Speer has been on stage since 2014 and has made a name for itself in the Austropop world over the years. “In the beginning it was a fun project, but I think that especially in the artistic area, the fun is only the fun, so the focus is just fun and we did not think of a career at all, but just wanted to do,” looks at the comedian and actor Christopher Seiler (38) in an interview with spot on news. “It’s nice to see what has become of it.” The singer takes a look back to his musical beginnings with filmmaker Bernhard Speer (42).

This year the musicians celebrate the 10th anniversary of the publication of their debut album and hits of the same name “Ham Kummst” (2015). “This one-hit Wonder rail was almost put on at the time, or many would have loved to have it,” says Christopher Seiler about her hitsong, who was only the beginning: “We are certainly anything but a one-hit wonder. Back when some bad tongues said, we already knew.” Her fourth studio album “Hödn” will be released this Friday, June 13th, and was eagerly awaited by the fans.

“The record took longer because there was a pandemic in between,” explains Seiler as the successor of “Forever” from 2019. “And because we had other projects. Normally it is the case that artists record an album to promote a tour. And our tours were always sold out without albums. So there was not the need.”

Show highlight in Vienna

In summer and end of the year, the band is back in Germany. And how does the audience, which is not powerful to the dialect, react to the dialect texts of the Austrians? “The more you get north, the more people deal with the texts that are our formative stylistic device, because they don’t understand everything,” the singer is happy about the fan base outside of their homeland.

At home there is in summer: On July 19, they will play their biggest show in the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna under the motto “A Schware Gartie 2025”. Well-known guests, including the Austrian songwriter legend Wolfgang Ambros (73). “It is always a pleasure when Wolfgang plays with us,” says Seiler. “It is not the first time, we have played with him several times. And we have a very family relationship with Wolfgang at all, because since day one the drummer of our band is the Matthias Ambros and as the name suggests that he is his son.” If you can learn something from Ambros, then “it is this resistance and this timeless person with the songs. What his songs have an effect – even today.”

The 73-year-old had to go to the hospital in early May, but recovered a few days later. He admires him that he has been on stage for so long, says Seiler. “Sure, Wolfgang, we know him. There is a person who lives for it. I can’t say whether we will be on stage for so long because you cannot see so far into the future. A lot has happened in ten years and spears and has changed a lot. I cannot say how it is in the next ten years.”

Seiler also looks at the Vienna show with anticipation of the Guest appearance of Otto Waalkes (76) and the Frisian boys “We are very happy”. “We have already got to know each other in the course of Nova Rock last year. He is of course also a legend. The line-up is generally very interesting, but it is precisely the atypical, which is what we are.”

ESC victory of Austria as inspiration?

A few weeks ago, Austria was able to celebrate a triumph a few weeks ago. Johannes Pietsch (24), artist name JJ, won the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel for the country. “I can only congratulate,” says Seiler. “Of course it makes you proud when our little country wins him. But I have to say honestly, I’m not looking at it now.”

You have to take the event as what it is, “namely an entertainment program. Because I always find it quite strange if you do a competition with songs. Because music is always in the eye of the viewer.” Therefore, he does not think that Seiler and Speer would take part himself. “From the show character, we don’t fit there because we are not so colorful and shrill. For us, the earthy is more in the foreground.”
