Sons are the reason why she lives

Singer Shakira talks about her new life after the separation of Gerard Piqué and the connection to her sons.

With 64 sold-out shows in North and South America, Shakira (48) appears in front of more than two million fans. The tour is entitled “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” (German women no longer cry), named after Shakira’s last album, which was inspired by lovesickness and personal upheaval. Before a show in Miamis Hard Rock Stadium, she was allowed to visit her behind the scenes.

Her approximately eleven-year relationship with ex-footballer Gerard Piqué (38) broke down in 2022. “Many of you know that the last few years have not been the easiest for me,” she said on stage. “But who doesn’t fall from time to time, right?” She asked the raging crowd. “What I have learned is that a fall is not the end, but the beginning of an even better journey.” More precisely, personal turbulence led to a creative thrust.

Shakira had reported back after years of break. In the early 2023 “BZRP Music Sessions #53”, a collaboration with the Argentine producer Bizarrap, she stuck against her ex and his new partner. He apparently believe that he hurt her, but he made her stronger, sang Shakira, among other things. And: “You exchanged a Ferrari for a Twingo. You have exchanged a Rolex for a Casio.”

The work distracts them, their children give their strength

The mother of two children cannot be sad for long. “To get a show of this size on your feet and let them take place every evening, it doesn’t matter whether you are sad or have a bad day or whether you are sick or cough – you just have to do your best and make it miraculous.” The adrenaline does not let them feel exhaustion.

Her children also give their strength. When she started on the stage “Acróstico”, a ballad that Shakira wrote for her sons Sasha (12) and Milan (10) to promise that she will remain strong despite the separation, the boys appeared on video screens. “My heart melts every time I see her on the screen and hear her little voices,” said the Colombian native. “You are just everything for me. You are my engine and the reason why I live.”
