As a chancellor’s wife, Charlotte Merz has so far made only a few appointments. Now she is entering international political parquet for the first time.
Charlotte Merz (64) accompanies her husband Friedrich Merz (69) to the two-day G7 summit in Canada. It is the first big appearance of the Chancellor’s wife on the international political parquet. The judge expects a colorful supporting program.
Chancellor’s wife presents herself in the gray suit
Chancellor Friedrich Merz and his wife arrived at the airfield in Calgary on June 15 (local time) after around nine hours of flight, where they were welcomed by the first nations representatives. The couple climbed from the plane side by side. Charlotte Merz wore a gray trouser suit, a light belt, a white blouse and beige ballerinas.
From Calgary we continued with the helicopter to the G7 conference location Kananaski in the Rocky Mountains, where the heads of state and government of the seven major western economies exchange ideas about political and economic issues. A short meeting of Friedrich Merz with US President Donald Trump (79) is also expected for June 16.
Hike and gondola ride
Incidentally, he is not accompanied by his wife Melania Trump (55). Brigitte Macron and Victoria Starmer are also missing. Like Charlotte Merz, on the other hand, Yoshiko Ishiba, wife of the Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, and Ursula from the Leyen’s husband Heiko. They take part in the traditional “accompanying program” for the partners. In addition to a dinner at the invitation of Diana Fox Carney, the wife of the Canadian host Mark Carney, this also includes a hike to a waterfall in the Rockies, a gondola ride and a chocolate tasting.
So far she was only there on two appointments
Since Friedrich Merz has been the new Chancellor, he mostly traveled without his wife: Immediately after taking office on May 6, he had visited Paris, Warsaw and Kiev. He was only accompanied by his wife as part of the German delegation for the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV (69) on May 18 in Rome. In addition, she was seen at a dinner in honor of the President of Israel in Bellevue Castle.
Charlotte Merz is the director of the Arnsberg District Court and would also like to continue doing her job as a chancellor’s wife. That is why political observers assume that she will only accompany her husband on selected appointments.
