Tom Cruise: Ehrenoscar for the Hollywood star

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, responsible for the awarding of the Oscars, has announced that Tom Cruise (62) is finally honored with a gold boy after more than 40 years in the film business. The Hollywood actor is one of several people who are to receive a honorary oscar at the end of the year.

“Mission: Impossible” star Cruise, who had already performed in the first productions in the early 1980s, was nominated four times for an Academy Award during his long career – as the best leading actor for “Born on July 4” and “Jerry Maguire – Game of Life”, as the best supporting actor for “Magnolia” and with “Top Gun: Maverick” for the best film. So far he has not been awarded the Oscar.

In addition to the so -called Academy Honorary Award to Cruise, one of the honoroscars also goes to the actress, choreographer and director Debbie Allen (75) and to the scene designer Wynn Thomas. Country legend Dolly Parton (79) is to be honored with the Jean Hersholt Humanitrian Award.

The Honorary Award of the Academy is awarded for an extraordinary life’s work in the field of film, for special contributions to film art or outstanding merits for the Academy. Jean Hersholt Humanitrian Award is awarded people from the industry who have campaigned extraordinarily for humanitarian purposes. The gold boys are presented with the 16th Governors Awards, which will take place on November 16.

“Four legendary personalities are honored at this year’s Governors Awards, whose extraordinary careers and their commitment to our community of filmmakers leave a lasting impression”, Academy President Janet Yang (68) is quoted in a message. Cruise is praised, among other things, for his “incredible commitment”, which “has inspired us all”. Parton, which is referred to as the “international icon”, has a “tireless commitment to charity”.
