This classic should not be missing at its upcoming Germany concerts: Duran Duran published 40 years ago the James Bond title song “A View to a Kill”. It was heated in the studio in 1985.

The musicians of the British cult band Duran Duran are still happy today that they were allowed to record a James Bond song. “It was exciting and was great fun to be part of the Bond machinery for a time,” said bassist John Taylor of the German Press Agency in London.

The single “A View to a Kill” – title song for the film of the same name with Roger Moore as a secret agent 007 (German title: “In the face of death”) – appeared 40 years ago and became a world hit.

Song also a must at upcoming Germany concerts

“I’m really proud of the recording,” said Taylor about the song that the band wrote together with composer legend John Barry. “There is a lot in it, which makes the song so special. It is really easy to play live. But if I tell something like that, I’ll probably grab it next time, just because I said that,” joked the bassist.

In addition to classics such as “The Wild Boys” or “Girls on Film”, “A View to a Kill” should not be missing at any British concert. In the anniversary year of the Bond song, this also applies to the upcoming shows in Düsseldorf (June 24) and Berlin (June 27) – Duran Duran’s first appearances in Germany for 13 years.

Working with composer legend John Barry was tricky

Taylor has ambiguous memories to work with his idol John Barry, who composed the film music for many 007 adventures and song classics such as “Goldfinger” and “Diamonds Are Forever”. Because the experienced film composer and Duran-Duran keyboardist Nick Rhodes did not get along well.

“I was looking forward to working with John Barry,” Taylor recalled. “But when we started work in the studio in London, the two didn’t understand each other at all. I had to make sure that everything stays in balance.” Producer Bernard Edwards finally calmed down the situation.

“I don’t know how we could get this song,” said Bond fan Taylor. “But it was a really great experience.”
