Sonya Kraus (48) had breast cancer. In an interview with “Bunte”, the presenter says that in September 2021 a 0.8 centimeter small but highly aggressive tumor was found in her. As a consequence, she decided to have both breasts removed. “I wanted the most radical procedure and the greatest possible chance for me not to get sick again.”
“The chemo was a monster”
But that was not the end of the nightmare. The chemotherapy that followed was “a monster for me,” says Kraus. Because of her experience, it is now a “mission and a matter of the heart” for Kraus to sensitize other women to cancer prevention: “In this pandemic, many women unfortunately dare to go to the doctor much too late. But these 20 minutes can save your life. Would be If I hadn’t gone for a routine check-up, I might not be alive.”
“Mom has pretty new breasts”
Kraus then had his breasts rebuilt, as she also says in the interview. “When I came out of the clinic, I said to my sons: ‘Mom has very nice new breasts and the knot is gone.'” The feeling of being able to talk openly about it helps her, Kraus also explains. “And now maybe getting a woman to go to the doctor too, that’s warm and human and beautiful.”
