Preparations for three -day nuptial festivities have irritated activists, who claim that Venice is becoming a paradise for the rich
Activists in Venice are intensifying protests in an attempt to interrupt, or even prevent, the planned wedding celebrations of the founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezosand the journalist, pilot and businesswoman winning an Emmy, Lauren Sáncheznext week.
The preparations for the three -day nuptial festivities – prevented for June 26 and 28 – have irritated the activists, who claim that Venice is becoming a paradise for the rich to the detriment of their inhabitants. As a result, activists have launched the campaign “There is no space for Bezos”a word game with the Bezos Space Project, Blue Origin.
During the weekend, they hung a huge banner in the Tower of San Marcos de Venice with the “Bezos” legend in blue capital letters and a red X on top. The campaign “There is no space for Bezos” has also deployed other banners and stuck stickers on the walls of the entire city.

“This wedding is the symbol of the exploitation of the city by outsiders,” Federica Toninelli, a 33 -year -old Venetian activist affiliated with the protesters “there is no space for Bezos.”
Now, the protesters threaten to block access to the channels, as well as to the narrow streets of the city, to prevent the approximately 200 guests from the Bezos-Sánchez wedding from reaching the different places of the party.
Among the guests are included Katy Perrysome of the Kardashian, Eva Longoria, Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, expressed his hope that the protest would not disturb the wedding plans of Bezos and Sánchez. “We will have to apologize with Bezos”Brugnaro declared the press in Venice on Friday. “I am ashamed of those who behave like this. I hope Bezos comes anyway,” he added, noting that “not all Venetians think like these protesters.”
