“Euphoria” actor Eric Dane fights with the first physical restrictions of his Alsmen disease. But acting helps him.
Suddenly the “Grey’s Anatomy” TV doctor himself became a patient: Eric Dane (52) published in April that he (as) suffered from incurable amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. But he would not give up acting because of the progressive illness of the central nervous system, he emphasized in a current one.
The actor spoke about life with the rare degenerative illness and why he did not intend to end his career. “I will pull it through until the bikes fall off. It keeps my mind awake. It brings me forward, which is very important at the moment,” Dane explained his decision.
“I feel great when I’m at work,” he continued. “Of course there were a few setbacks, but I feel pretty good. My mood is always pretty good, and in the end that’s all that matters.”
The father had spoken of two daughters on US breakfast television at the beginning of the week: One and a half years after the beginning of his symptoms, he had lost control of his right arm and was worried that he could lose his mobility in other areas. “I still have a functioning arm. My dominant side. My left side still works, my right side has stopped working completely,” he said, but admitted: “I have the feeling that I will no longer have my left hand in a few months. It’s sobering.” He is also worried about his legs.
Shortly after the ALS diagnosis, Eric Dane was back on the set
Despite everything, Eric Dane returned only a few days after the announcement of his ALS diagnosis, which causes progressive paralysis of the muscles, to film three of the US series “Euphoria”. The husband of actress Rebecca Gayheart (53) was optimistic about “e! News”: “I don’t think this is the end of my story. I don’t have the feeling that this is the end of me”.
