The numbers give hope. For the first time in almost a year, the nationwide incidence is 8.0. Such a value was last seen in mid-August 2020.
The health authorities in Germany reported 455 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day. This is evident from the figures from Tuesday morning, which reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 3:13 a.m. For comparison: a week ago the value was 652 infections. The seven-day incidence in the morning was given by the RKI nationwide as 8.0 (previous day: 8.6; previous week: 15.5; previous month: 66.8).
The incidence is almost exactly the same as last year. The last time there was a value of 8.5 in Germany was on August 17, 2020 – more than 300 days ago.
According to the information, 77 new deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 93 dead.
More than 90,000 corona deaths since the start of the pandemic
The RKI has counted 3,722,782 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, however, since many infections are not recognized.
The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 3,608,100. The number of people who died with or with the involvement of a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 is now given as 90,472.
On Monday evening, the RKI gave the 7-day R-value as 0.68. This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 68 more people. The R-value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection process subsides; if it is consistently higher, the number of cases increases.
