The final season of Cobra Kai brought many surprises for fans of Karate Kidbut the creators of the series were “a little” disappointed that a cameo could not be done.
Josh Healdwho created the series next to Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberghe told the EW portal that he wanted the two -time Oscar winner, Hilary Swankwho played Julie Pierce in the 1994 film The Next Karate Kidappeared in season 6.
Why Hilary Swank was not part of Cobra Kai
“We contacted her from the beginning, before the season, to see if there was any possibility of appearing,” Heald revealed. “We had an idea of how I could enter this story without having to commit to 10 episodes or something.”
Heald said after him, Hurwitz and Schlossberg had “the beginnings of the genesis of an idea,” they approached the Swank team.
“For its part, it was very respectful, but we never had the opportunity to sit and open as we usually do when we recovered characters from the legacy,” said Heald.
Heald explained that Swank “was simply in a place where I didn’t seek to do that” and return to the Karate Kid franchise, since he had recently welcomed his twins and was in production in other projects.
She gave the creators “a respectful pass about the idea of even a meeting,” said Heald.
“She didn’t want us to take the trouble to fly to her and sincerely let her know what she wanted, because she was simply ready to do it at that time,” he added.
Even after Cobra Kai is over, he said there is still an opportunity for Swank to repeat his character in future projects.
“It is a large part of the Miyagi universe that is still valid,” he said.
“For us, it was a bit disappointing because we like to have all, but at the same time, we did not sacrifice any important story that we had already developed,” Heald continued. “It is another fruit of the vine in case we can review this universe in the future.”
No more spin-offs of Karate Kid or Cobra Kai have been announced, but the creators have hinted at the possibility and Karate Kid: Legends premiered in theaters on May 30.
