The trial against Amber Heard was almost two and a half years ago. But has Johnny Depp since then in the dream factory rehabilitated?
It has been around two and a half years since the judgment in the court trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard (39) was largely decided in favor of actor Johnny Depp (62). Reviews his motives for the sensational walk to the court: “If I do not try to represent the truth, it is as if I actually committed the deeds that are subordinate to me.” He also describes himself as a “crash test dummy” for the subsequent #metoo movement. The only question is: Did Depp’s career survive the violent impact despite a positive outcome in the process?
While the legal discussion was in full swing in 2022, many process observers unanimously submitted a pragmatic forecast. Regardless of the judgment, neither of the two conflict parties will emerge as a undamaged winner. Laundry that was too dirty in the defamation process, which was several weeks. Too big (and probably documented) abyss. The conclusion was that the allegations against Depp were unjustified. Various inner demons, such as violent alcohol and drug use during the problematic marriage, did not necessarily make him more attractive for the film studios after the process.
The first project
And so it took until August 2023 before Depp was seen again in a cinema roll. In the French historical drama “Jeanne du Barry”, Depp embodies the former king of France, Louis XV. The strip of and with Maïwenn Le Besco (49) had previously opened the international film festival of Cannes – albeit except competition – and met with positive feedback.
So Depp’s performance was taken in benevolence. He was also able to look forward to fan celebrations as in his best times when he visited Cannes. The film, which Depp had co -produced, served as a start -up for his return to Hollywood.
Has the time for the real comeback come now?
The reason for the current interview with the British “Sunday Times” was the UK release of a film called “Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness” – the first directorial work by Johnny Depp for decades. However, his return to the US dream factory did not represent this project, “Modi” was created as a co-production of Great Britain, Italy and Hungary. The film had already celebrated its premiere at the San Sebastián International Film Festival in September last year. Almost two months later, the biographical drama came to the cinema about the artist Amedeo Modigliani in Italy. A worldwide release has so far been missing, according to the industry page “Box Office Mojo”, “Modi” did not include $ 500,000.
The film “Day Drinker”, which is currently in production, has much greater chances of falling down Depp’s return in Hollywood. In the fantasy thriller, which is due to come to the cinema in 2026, Penélope Cruz (51) can also be seen in addition to Depp. In the person of Marc Webb (50), a man directs to work in the dream factory with “(500) Days of Summer” or the “Amazing Spider-Man” films. But a little downside also with the “Day Drinker” director: Most recently he was responsible for the Disney debacle “Snow White”. He was probably the slightest fault of his failure to the box office.
God vs. Satan follows Depp vs. Heard
Depps Currently Hotest Hollywood iron, meanwhile, seems to be the film “The Carnival at the End of Days”, which is currently still being developed. In it he is not only part of the viewer magnet Jason Momoa (45) and Adam Driver (41). In the strip of Monty-Python legend Terry Gilliam (84), he also embodies the bodily devil, while Altstar Jeff Bridges (75) mimics. The twist of fantasy comedy: God is dissatisfied with his creation and wants to wipe out humanity, while Satan of all people is fighting for their rescue. That really sounds like a conflict that has blockbuster potential.
Loss of quality before the process
What should not be forgotten in the event of w after to the process: Johnny Depp’s career had suffered a sensitive dent even before the public mud fight under oath. Films such as “Mortdecai – the part -time crook”, “Yoga Hosers” or “Lone Ranger” were not wrongly torn into a flop and critics. In the years before the process, he had at most demonstrated his former world star-radiance in the “fantastic animal system” films. A successful return to the dream factory would be a double resistance to him.
