JK Rowling praises the screenplays for the series according to its “Harry Potter” books. And clarifies your role in adaptation.
JK Rowling (59) gives the authors of the new “Harry Potter” series from HBO their blessing. She read the scripts for the first two episodes “and they are so, so well”,
In the comments on her statement, she asked a followers whether she was involved in the screenplays of the series. “No,” said Rowling. “But I worked closely with the extremely talented authors,” she replied.
When a serial adaptation of JK Rowling’s books was first reported in 2023, the author’s participation was already mentioned. This should ensure the fidelity of the film adaptation. In which position Rowling will be involved was still unclear.
HBO later reported that JK Rowling will act as the executive producer. Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod will also work in this function. Gardiner writes the screenplays that Mylod will direct at least part of the episodes.
Real passion for Harry Potter
JK Rowling is not praised for the first time about Gardiner and Mylod. In 2024 she revealed via X that she “interviewed” both. “Both have a real passion for Harry Potter, and after reading Francesca’s pilot script and hearing Mark’s vision, I am sure that the television series will more than meet expectations,” she wrote.
The filming of the “Harry Potter” series should begin this year. In 2026 it will then start at the HBO Max streaming service. Like the movies (2001-2011), the series is based on the seven novels that JK Rowling published between 1997 and 2007.
