Singer breaks down concert due to a stroke
Ronnie McDowell broke out his concert appearance in Pennsylvania after he started speaking indistinctly. The hospital followed.
Country singer Ronnie McDowell had to end his appearance at the Summer Castric Festival in Oley, Pennsylvania, last weekend and was then taken to the hospital. The 75-year-old had started to speak indistinctly during his set on Saturday, June 21.
As reported, McDowell’s tour manager noticed in the first songs that the singer started to laugh and “didn’t make any sense”. After three to four songs, the tour manager stopped the show and took McDowell aside to ask how he feels.
Fear of a stroke
When asked whether he was doing well, McDowell replied with “No” and expressed the concern to have suffered a stroke. The musician was then taken to the hospital immediately. McDowell’s son Tyler Dean came on Facebook on Sunday: he had arrived in Pennsylvania and was together with his brother Ronnie Dean in the father’s hospital room. “He talks to us and we are waiting to make the MRI,” he reported.
Good news finally came on Monday: “I have dad in the car and we are on our way home!” ,. He announced that he or his brother would soon share more information about her father’s state of health.
Successful country career
Ronnie McDowell became known at the end of the 1970s with his song “The King Is Gone”, a tribute to Elvis Presley. His biggest hits include “Older Women”, “You’re Gonna Ruin My Bad Reputation” and “All Tied Up”. Most recently, the 75-year-old was heard on Dolly Parton’s album “Rockstar” in 2023, where he contributed to the song “I Dreamed About Elvis”.
