Prince Joachim von Denmark: In Washington he adheres to “rules of the game”

In Washington DC, Prince Joachim von Denmark (56), wife Marie (49) and her two common children, Count Henrik (16) and Countess Athena (13), have temporarily settled in the defense department of the Danish embassy almost two years ago. However, he likes to benefit from his royal title far away from the Danish palace, the youngest son of ex-queen Margrethe (85) revealed to the Danish news service “Dr”.

To be addressed as “royal highness”, the younger brother of King Frederik X. (57) occasionally uses his diplomatic work in the Danish embassy in Washington DC. “It has an effect. I am completely aware of it. I would not say that I would abuse it. I use it where I know it has the right effect. And that is exactly what it is: to use it correctly – to play it down here and sometimes to propagate a little. It is one of the rules of the game and I stick to it.” It could open locked doors.

His two teen children had to change school for Papa’s new job. “The United States is a country of unlimited possibilities, and it is also super exciting for our children to go to school here. Here Prince Joachim was the first Danish officer to complete the highest military leadership training in France on the École Militaire in Paris before starting the post of Danish defense attaché in France. “I think the four years in Paris and the three to four years here are a well -invested time (for the children) in the long run.”

Prince Joachim is grateful that his family followed him over the Atlantic: “Having you here gives me the calm and the balance I need to give 110 percent here.”

With his ex-wife Alexandra Manley (60), Joachim also has two adult sons: Nikolaam William Alexander Frederick zu Denmark (25) and Felix Henrik Valdemar Christian to Denmark (22).
