Spermidine should keep young longer. Experts and studies on the effect

A sperm -rich diet should keep young longer. But is that really true? And how does it work? Experts and studies clarify the effect of spermidine.

A balanced diet and an active lifestyle can cause us to stay healthy longer and at best live longer. Specifically, these are, among other things,: the most extensive waiver of nicotine, alcohol and industrial sugar and a diet rich in vitamins and fiber, a lot of movement, drinking a lot of water- in order to cut it down in a nutshell and incompleteness.

The topic of longevity, i.e. longevity, has been in focus for many time and there are some tips that should help to extend life and to ensure that we also stay healthy for longer. Spermidine should also be able to help extend life and to protect against diseases as far as possible. But what exactly is spermidine, what effect should it have and how safe are the results of the studies that show a positive spermidine effect?

What is spermidine?

Spermidine is a so -called biogenes polyamine. If the name of something is reminiscent, it is right: Both this term and the name Spermin (a splitting product of the cell nucleus) is derived from the male seed fluid, as it was first discovered there. Spermidine does not only occur in the sperm, but in all living organisms and body cells. It is also closely associated with cell growth. However, the very precise physiological function of spermidin in growing cells has not yet been fully examined and clarified. However, it is clear: If the metabolism accelerates, the amount of spermidine increases in the organism, and if the metabolism slowed it, it decreases. The concentration also decreases in old age: about 35 years. It is usually measured in µmol, i.e. a millionth mol, oneUnit in which the concentration of the PHE value is reproduced in the blood.

What effect has spermidine on the body?

Spermidin stimulates autophagy, simply to put it on the self -cleaning and rejuvenation of the cells. This effect is largely confirmed. It also takes place in fasting. In autophagy, damaged cells are covered by a membrane. Then they are digested. Old cells become functional again through this process and live longer. Healthy cells better protect against diseases and the more spermidine, the better the autophagy can take place, according to the assumption.

Since the autophagy gets into the stall in old age and also decreases the spermidine concentration with increasing age, increased intake should be helpful in old age in order to keep autophagy. Only scientific studies can clarify whether the whole thing can work in this way. There are now some of them – which, however, do not all lead to the same result or are completely valid or representative.

Studies on spermidine effect

A few years ago, there were already showing tests with aged mice that a spermid -rich diet in animals is associated with higher life expectancy and increased health. In cooperation with the University of Graz 2018, researchers from the University of Innsbruck also published Spermidin, which, based on 829 human participants: inside between 45 and 84 years, shows that a sperm -rich diet apparently also has positive effects on life expectancy and health of cells.

Participants: Inside, in which more than 80 µmol spermidine in the blood was detected by their spermidinous diet, a lower risk of dying in the 20-year observation period of the study than those who had less than 60 µmol. There would be an increased life expectancy of five years, one of the results of the study published in the “American Journal of Clinical Nutrition”. In order to achieve the examined value, you have to consume several milligrams of spermidine every day. How much exactly is not clear.

In conversation with “Geo”, neurologist Stefan Kiechl, who is responsible for both the study and at the Medicine University of Innsbruck Vascage, leads that the statement that it is striking for five years longer is striking. However, the study results are representative. “You can say that people who consume a lot of spermidine live longer.”

In such observation studies, disruptive factors are also excluded, such as whether participants have generally fed or moved more healthier on the inside. “Nevertheless, there was a significant effect at Spermidin.” Spermidine not only rejuvenate the cells, but can also steam inflammation, lower cholesterol and blood pressure or even prevent dementia. Kiechl also says: A final proof of such a positive spermidine effect can only provide an intervention study that is already planned at Vascage. You have to wait a few more years for the valid results. The website “Medicine Transparent”, which has searched the databases for studies, also comes to the conclusion that representative ideal studies on the subject of spermidine are not yet available and that valid statements are (yet) not to be made – rather assumptions that are supported by individual studies.

Which foods are it included?

It is certain that it is by no means harmful to pay attention to increased spermidine intake through the nutrition. The polyamide can be found in many healthy foods that you can safely integrate into the menu. These are, for example:

  • Wheat germ: 254 mg/kg
  • Pumpkin seeds: 104 mg/ kg
  • Mushrooms: 88.6 mg/kg
  • Peas: 46 mg/kg
  • Hazelnuts: 21 mg/kg

Anyone who needs suggestions to cook spermidine and healthy can also consult some books as help: Both the book “” as well as ““Have received very good reviews from Kund: and one way or another, it has a positive effect on health when you cook fresh and pay attention to the food used.

How effective are capsules with spermidine?

Since we can also absorb spermidine through food, it is not necessary to take it to us via dietary supplements. A balanced diet is usually sufficient. Nevertheless, as with other nutritional supplements, it is also: for whatever reason – does not make it – or do not believe in consuming spermidine through the diet in the desired amount, you can use capsules.

A company that specializes in spermidine is “spermidine life”. Co -founder Herbert Pock has star explains why it should be spermidine. “For us at ‘The Longevity Labs+’ the cell is the basis for a healthy life at the center of our actions. Therefore, in our work we take a holistic view of the cell with all its cellular processes. “An essential process of this is the above -mentioned autophagy.” This process influences all cells, from the skin cells to heart cells to the brain cells. With the age, this process, as well as the body’s sperm production, significantly reduces the starting point for age -associated diseases, “he says.

His company was the first to has launched the market and still offers the world’s only spermidine with a European Novel food approval. With the help of the products, the desired amount of sperm can be easily consumed. “In the human studies in which spermidine is examined, doses of one to six milligrams of spermidine per daily dose can be found. So the effects can be read directly from the studies,” said Pock. In conversation with “Geo”, neurologist Stefan Kiechl recommends at least five milligrams a day. But more than six milligrams of spermidine should not be taken through capsules.

From his point of view, Pock explains why an additional spermidine intake in old age alone would not always be sufficient due to nutrition: “Spermidine can be found in most cells of plants, animals and humans. Therefore, you can take it through the food. However, a problem is the different dosage in the different foods. Different varieties, different growing conditions and the floor quality varies in food strong.” Furthermore, spermidine is a water -soluble polyamine and at higher temperatures it is not heat -stable. “All these imponderables can be dealt with with tested nutritional supplements. So you can be sure that you consume your two to six milligrams of spermidine per daily dose,” the co -founder is certain.

Are there any side effects when taking such dietary supplements?

Often, taking nutritional supplements sounds practical and uncomplicated – but what about an overdose or side effects? “Since spermidine occurs in our body and in our cells from birth, our body knows natural spermidine very well. Side effects, overdoses or interactions have not emerged from the previous studies.” There are also no negative interactions with other nutritional supplements. “Clar -text nutritional supplement”, an offer from the consumer advice center, recommends that not to exceed maximum amounts in nutritional supplements and to be careful in the event of still unexplored means. It is not allowed to be more than six milligrams a day, even the long -term use of such means is not recommended, since the area is still unexplored and the effect is not secured.

Doubts about the positive spermidine effect

Both studies and the explanations of experts sound consistently positive. Nevertheless, others show. In addition, a recording by nutritional supplements is not always a safe way to bring the polyamide in the desired amount to wherever it should go. Professor Dr. Martin Smollich, specialist for nutritional medicine and director at the University Hospital in Lübeck for the AG PharmoConutrition, told “MDR knowledge”. Study work would have doubts about the secure spermidine recording by dietary supplements in the body. He says: “You can take spermidine, but it doesn’t matter in the body at all.”
