The Germans trained sitting meat diligently: the average citizen spends more than ten hours a day. Not the only alarm signal of the researchers.
The majority of people in Germany move too little and sits too long. On average, the Germans spend more than ten hours on sitting on one working day, which is almost two hours more than ten years ago, as can be seen from a report from German Health Insurance (DKV) published on Monday. According to the private cash register, this is an “alarming record”. The conditions for an all -round healthy lifestyle meet only two percent of the population.
Together with the German Sport University Cologne and the University of Würzburg, the health behavior of the Germans was examined for the eighth time for the DKV report. The focus was on nutrition, physical activity, alcohol consumption, smoking, stress behavior and the time spent on sitting. For this purpose, more than 2,800 people were interviewed between February 11th and March 17th.
Health report: Not even a third of the Germans move sufficiently
The average duration of the seat increased from nine hours and 58 minutes to about ten hours and 13 minutes per working day. On average, for three and a half hours, people sit in the workplace, two and a half hours in front of the television and an hour and a half to computers or tablets.
Just under a third (30 percent) of the more of the versatile manages to compensate for long sitting through sufficient physical activity. Overall, more than two thirds of the respondents (68 percent) cope with the recommended endurance activities, so the level remains quite stable. The muscle training, which is recommended twice a week by the World Health Organization (WHO), only does a third (34 percent). The combination of endurance and muscle activity does not even achieve a third (32 percent).
Almost 30 percent don’t drink alcohol
As can be seen from the report, around 80 percent refrain from smoking and consumption of e-cigarettes. 29 percent of the respondents leave their fingers completely from alcohol. Only about a third of the population feeds healthy and follows the recommendations of the German Society for Nutrition (DGE), which, for example, mostly provide fruit and vegetables, wholemeal cereals, legumes and nuts as well as little meat.
While young adults overall do without alcohol more frequently, according to older people, the report scores with nutrition and stress management. When it comes to stress, however, only one fifth (20 percent) of the respondents are able to deal with the daily perceived burden across all age groups. After 2021 this is a low value.
Women live healthier than men
An all -round healthy lifestyle is obviously difficult to reach for many German citizens. According to the report, only two percent of the respondents meet the recommendations in all points together, whereby there are gender differences. While three percent of women meet all criteria for all -round healthy life, just one percent of men can do this.
Education also plays a role: respondents with completed studies meet the guidelines for an all -round healthy life with five percent most frequently. For secondary school graduates, this is zero percent and one percent in people with medium ripeness.
