The world of science is exciting – and complicated. star-Science expert Christoph Koch explains to us why we regularly turn the dial.

Every week there are new, exciting findings in science. But hardly anyone can understand it. Except Christoph Koch, head of the science department at stern. Stern reporter Thilo Mischke will interview his colleague on behalf of all those who have no idea. On current but also fundamental scientific findings. And hopefully get an understandable answer. True to the name of the magazine: Questions. Understand. This time: What is this annoying time change actually about?
Wonderful time doubling
The night on the last Sunday in October is the longest of the year: after 2:59 a.m., strangely enough, the official time does not jump to 3:00 a.m., but back to 2:00 a.m. Everyone knows that the “gift” hour is actually just borrowed: in the spring we all had to get up an hour earlier. We’re talking about summer time. A clear majority find it quite unnecessary and, at least at the beginning, don’t really feel like getting up earlier.
But why is summer time so persistent? Does it apply everywhere and why was it invented? Puzzles upon puzzles that we can solve in our new video in time for the clock change.
