What a tragic fate:
At the age of 14, Weronika Fafinsk had a brain tumor and had to undergo surgery.
The surgery has unforeseen consequences:
“I have no memory of my childhood because I had a brain tumor removed when I was 14. So I lost all 14 years of my memories.”
She first noticed that something was wrong in 2012 when she was visiting her family in Poland and could no longer hear with her right ear.
After an MRI scan, the 12-year-old heard the sad news:
“They did a scan and found a brain tumor in my frontal lobe.”
Your symptoms worsen:
“We went on vacation to Tunisia. There my symptoms got worse and worse. I couldn’t feel anything in my legs anymore.”
In 2014, she undergoes surgery to remove most of the tumor, but wakes up with memory loss:
“I woke up and couldn’t remember anything. I know they are my parents, but I still don’t know them. I hate it. No matter how many times I look at pictures, it’s just an image I can’t remember.”
Fafinsk finds it difficult to adjust to life after the operation as she has forgotten many things:
“When I wanted to get something out of the oven, I just used my hands and pulled the dish out of the oven. That’s when I realized things can get hot. Even when we went for a walk, I didn’t know that you have to look left and right to see if a car is coming.”
Tests last year show that her tumor has grown again.
Fafinsk participates in a fundraiser of the charity “Brain Tumor Research”. She walks 10,000 steps every day.
With the money raised, she hopes to help find an effective treatment for this painful disease.
